- Japan U/23 3 Australia U/23 1
THE Olyroos lost 3-1 to Japan tonight in a friendly before their Olympic qualifiers against Yemen later this month.
The Olyroos took the lead through Brisbane Roar’s Mitch Nichols after a swift counter attack but Japan capitalised on slack marking on Australia’s left to equalise moments before half time.
Australia played some nice possession football throughout but Japan placed the Olyroos under heavy pressure in the second half and had a shot from distance hit the post and another blaze just wide.
Another defensive error saw Japan take the lead and they wrapped up the match with a third goal close to full time.
Australia take on Yemen in Olympic qualifiers on June 19 and 23.
